Okay, so the benefits of making fish a part of your diet are widely popular. If we go by what’s special in each of them, here’s what it is. – Rohu is very popular in the Indian subcontinent due to its “non-fishy” mildly sweet taste. It ages like fine wine, the meat becomes softer with a creamier texture. The additional fat melts and lends a rich flavour to any dish you prepare. It’s high in Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin A, B, and C & protein and extremely low in fat.
– Catla, like Rohu, is also a part of the carp family and tastes quite similar to its more famous cousin. Recognised by its pouting lower lip, it’s filled with indignation for often being mistaken for a Rohu. It has a larger, healthier head and smoother texture than Rohu due to its slightly higher fat content. It has a much better Omega 3/6 ratio and packs a punch with its high Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin A, B, and C & protein content.
– Basa is caught from Indian freshwater and belongs to the catfish family. It is a favourite amongst people due to its meaty texture, mild flavour and very few bones. It has an extremely low calorific profile of ̴1cal/gm with an abundance of protein and omega-3 fatty acids.
– Norwegian Salmon is raised in the cold clear waters of Norway, duh, where it grows at its own leisurely pace gaining a pure and fresh taste, exquisite marbling patterns and lovely red-orange colouring. It has a firm consistency making every bite an unforgettable experience. With every 100 gm containing 5 days’ worth of Omega 3 fatty acid requirement, it’s a must addition to your diet.
– White Pomfret is the silver seawater beauty brought from the Indian ocean. It has a delicate flesh which turns buttery after cooking. Steam it to relish all the natural fish flavours or deep fry it to turn the bones crunchy and eat up the whole fish.
– River Sole has no fishy smell unlike most fish and hence is more similar to meat. Its mild and sweet flavour can make it the capstone of any meal. Moreover, it is exceptionally rich in potassium, phosphorus and Niacin.
– Singhara river catfish has regional names like Singhara, Ayer and Vellakoori. It has a mild sweet taste and firm texture. It’s rich in Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. The soft small bones are easy to remove or just get fried to a crisp.
Freshwater Prawns are crustaceans that have a delicate sweet flavour and firm white flesh. These are procured from the rivers draining into the Bay of Bengal. While rich in vitamins D, E, B3 and zinc, it’s also extremely low in calories and fat. However, it is rich in cholesterol, so discretion may be advised.
